* Understand what preclinical research on developing nociceptive systems can tell us about the measurement and treatment of paediatric pain.
* Discuss the importance of endogenous pain control systems and how their slow postnatal maturation impacts upon pain experience in young patients.
* Identify how early life injury at critical stages of development can impact upon the immature pain system with life-long effects
